MOSCOW, September 5 (RIA Novosti) - Russian President Dmitry Medvedev praised on Saturday the country's capital and called Moscow a symbol of Russia's renewal.
"We often speak that Moscow symbolizes Russia, its great destiny, unity and unique diversity, and the main thing is that it is a symbol of constant renovation and development," Medvedev said during City Day celebrations.
The Russian leader said Moscow is a city of "huge prospects, tremendous opportunities, a world-level city, one of the centers of international development," adding that despite economic recession, the capital does everything to allay the consequences of the crisis.
Medvedev also said that Muscovites are not only eager to celebrate holidays, but are also ready to give a helping hand to those in need, recalling that "when [last August's] war [with Georgia] destroyed peaceful [South Ossetia's capital] Tskhinval, Moscow builders built a new neighborhood there for literally one year."
"This is an example of a truly human, fraternal support," the Russian president said. "I am convinced we will always be taking pride in Moscow."
