NEW DELHI, September 10 (RIA Novosti) - At least 11 people died and some 20 are missing after a bus plunged into a river in northern Nepal on Thursday, local media reported.
The accident occured in the village of Sukute, some 75 kilometers (47 miles) east of the Nepalese capital, Kathmandu, at 9:50 a.m (04:05 GMT). The bus was carrying some 35 passengers to Kathmandu from the village of Jalbire in Sidhupalchowk district, the Times of India said, quoting local police.
The bus fell 35 meters (115 feet) from the mountain road, police said.
Rescuers have so far retrieved 11 bodies from the river, swollen by monsoon rains. Four passengers were reportedly rescued.
The accident is the deadliest in Nepal since the beginning of the year. Poorly maintained vehicles and roads, and careless driving, are common causes of such accidents in the Himalayas.
