Pakistani security forces have arrested a Taliban spokesman and four of the group's commanders in the Swat Valley.

KABUL, September 11 (RIA Novosti) - Pakistani security forces have arrested a Taliban spokesman and four of the group's commanders in the Swat Valley, the country's military said on Friday.

The Pakistan Taliban confirmed the arrests, saying spokesman Muslim Khan is among those arrested in the northwestern region.

Army officials said senior Taliban commander Mahmood Khan is also among the detainees.

The Al Jazeera news network quoted Athar Abbas, the chief military spokesman, as saying bounty money of 10 million rupees ($120,500) had earlier been offered for the capture of the two men.

"Along with them, three other terrorist leaders - Fazle Ghaffar, Abdul Rehman and Sartaj - have been also been apprehended," he said.

Muslim Khan was known for regularly contacting international media to claim Taliban responsibility for terrorist attacks.

International media have quoted the Taliban as saying the men had been negotiating with Pakistani forces before the arrests. However, the military has refused to comment on the reports.
