Addressing the opening ceremony, Alexei Mitrofanov, president of the National Geopolitics Center, said: “Aviation is probably more important for Russia than it is for any other state. You can drive across some countries without having to fill your gas tank. But it takes nine hours for a plane to fly across Russia. Aviation is important for Russia even politically, as it helps to keep the country together.”
