Speaking to the Valdai Discussion Club, the chairman of the Moscow Patriarchates External Church Relations Department said that while the Russian government has recognized Abkhazia and South Ossetia as independent countries, the Russian Church continues to recognize these territories as the domain of the Georgian Orthodox Church. Negotiations are under way as to how to administer church life there, while the churches there, which declared their secession from the Georgian Church, remain de facto without episcopal supervision.</span></span></p>
