CAIRO, September 19 (RIA Novosti) - The Palestinian leader ruled out on Saturday a resumption of talks with Israel will be announced at a potential trilateral meeting with the Israeli premier and the U.S. president next week.
Mahmoud Abbas and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu are expected to meet in Washington under the auspices of U.S. leader Barack Obama.
"The announcement on a resumption of peace talks could have been made in Washington" if not for the lack of agreement with the Israelis, Mahmoud Abbas said during a visit to Cairo, the Egyptian capital.
The White House Mideast envoy, George Mitchell, failed to reach agreement with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on the issue of Jewish settlements earlier this week.
The United States has been urging Israel to agree to a freeze, to enable progress in peace negotiations with the Palestinians.
