MOSCOW, September 25 (RIA Novosti) - Russian health ministry has not received any official announcement from AvtoVAZ on its plans to cut over 27,000 workers, the Health and Social Development Minister said on Friday.
Earlier Russia's largest carmaker AvtoVAZ said it was planning to lay off 27,600 employees, bringing its total workforce down to around 75,000.
The AvtoVAZ's press service said the company, which has cut production due to weak sales, had originally planned to terminate 36,000.
"There are lots of discussions on AvtoVAZ, all details about the redundancy of 36,000, or as of today's information - 27,600 workers, have not officially been confirmed yet," Tatiana Golikova said on Russia's Channel 1.
