TEL AVIV, September 27 (RIA Novosti) - Israeli police used stun grenades on Sunday to disperse Palestinian rioters at a Jerusalem sensitive religious site, a police spokesman said.
The disturbances occurred in the compound known to Jews as the Temple Mount and to Muslims as the Noble Sanctuary when around 150 Palestinians started to hurl stones at a group of Jews visiting the religious site.
The police spokesman said that nine policemen were slightly hurt in the clashes while Palestinian medics said that 17 Palestinians received injuries during the incident.
The disturbances occurred before the start of Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar.
