KIEV, September 28 (RIA Novosti) - Registration of Ukrainian presidential candidates will be held between October 19 and November 13, a deputy head of the Central Election Commission said on Monday.
Andriy Mahera said the long period for presidential candidates to register would allow anyone wishing to take part in the elections to do so.
The former Soviet state, long engulfed in political crisis and hit hard by the global economic slump, is due to hold presidential elections on January 17.
Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko and her predecessor Viktor Yanukovych, who now heads the opposition Party of Regions, lead the opinion polls. Parliament speaker Volodymyr Lytvin is also set to run, along with incumbent President Viktor Yushchenko, whose single-digit poll ratings lag far behind the other main candidates.
