ATHENS, October 4 (RIA Novosti) - A Greek sailor has died after two freight ships collided in the Aegean Sea and one of the vessels sank, the Greek Merchant Marine Ministry said on Sunday.
Greece's Captain Michalis ship with nine crewmembers sank after colliding early on Sunday with a Maltese-flagged ship, the Santana, near the East Aegean island of Amorgos, the ministry said.
The eight sailors from the sunken ship were rescued and the dead sailor's body was recovered during a rescue operation, the ministry said.
The Santana with a Ukrainian crew was en route from Ukraine to Thailand. The ship is now heading for the Greek island of Syros for investigation, the ministry said.
