The first exhibition dedicated to French actress Brigitte Bardot, highlighting the greatest successes in her career, has opened in Boulogne-Billancourt outside Paris.
Brigitte Bardot came to symbolize the 1950s and 1960s and promoted the sexual revolution. The exhibition’s organizers called it “The Carefree Years” to distract the French from the current tough economic reality.
Journalist Henri-Jean Servat, who has known Bardot for the past 22 years, chose the exhibits. In the late 1950s and the early 1960s, Bardot symbolized the Renault Floride convertible, which was designed in Boulogne-Billancourt.
The exhibition covers a total area of 900 square meters and comprises 20 small halls symbolizing various periods of Bardot’s life. Visitors gather near screens to watch episodes from Bardot’s movies, video footage of her life and other iconic images.
Bardot was dubbed the Queen of Saint Tropez. A bust of Marianne, a national emblem of France, modelled after Bardot stands in the office of the Saint Tropez mayor. Bardot became the first Frenchwoman in history to pose as Marianne.
Exhibition organizers brought together some of Bardot’s personal effects sold by her over 20 years ago for the Brigitte Bardot Foundation for the Welfare and Protection of Animals.
This Harley Davidson motorcycle “starred” in a video clip based on the “Harley Davidson” song by French singer-songwriter, actor and director Serge Gainsbourg. Bardot recorded over 80 songs throughout her career.
In 1956, Bardot starred in the film “And God Created Woman” directed by her first husband, Roger Vadim. The film promoted the sexual revolution, and later led to Bardot’s divorce and her marriage to film co-star Jean-Louis Trintignant.
Exhibition organizers, who realize that Brigitte Bardot, a French sex symbol and one of the most beautiful women in the world, remains in vogue, recreated a gallery of her followers.
Anyone can pose as “the real Bardot” in a special photo booth.
