MOSCOW, October 6 (RIA Novosti) - British Airways said it is cutting 1,700 cabin crew positions in the United Kingdom out of a total of 14,000 people.

The loss-making airline said Tuesday 1,000 full-time cabin crew staff at Heathrow Airport will be made redundant, and 3,000 other employees will switch to part time - which is equivalent to a total cut of 1,700 full-time positions.

In July BA reported a pre-tax loss of 148 million pounds ($235 million at current rates) for the first quarter of the 2009-2010 financial year (April-June).

In the 2008-2009 financial year, the company reported a record 401 million pound ($638 million) pre-tax loss.
