KIEV, October 8 (RIA Novosti) - Ukraine may use its right under the current contract with Russian energy giant Gazprom to cut natural gas imports in 2010, Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko said on Thursday.
Commenting on Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller's earlier remark that under the contract, Ukraine must buy at least 52 billion cubic meters of gas per year, Tymoshenko said that "Ukraine has the right to order the volume that it needs."
Ukraine is currently negotiating a reduction in supplies to 33 billion cubic meters a year.
She said the contract provides for 20% fluctuations in the level of consumption, and that "aggressive statements" on minimum supply levels should be ignored.
