CSKA had their first shot on target in the fifth minute, when Milos Krasic (in red) struck from the penalty area. Manchester United goalie Edwin van der Sar made an impressive save, and the ball went high over the bar.

In 15 minutes, Manchester United adapted to the stadium’s artificial grass and began attacking the CSKA goal, forcing the Russian players to make mistakes. Paul Scholes tried a shot from a distance, which bounced in front of goalie Igor Akinfeyev. In turn, CSKA’s Krasic tried a shot at the Manchester United goal but missed.
