MOSCOW, November 2 (RIA Novosti) - A total of 144 militants have been killed during special operations in Russia's North Caucasus since April, the interior minister of the republic of Chechnya said Monday.
"One hundred and forty-four members of illegal armed units have been killed since April 20, 118 of them in Chechnya," Ruslan Alkhanov reported to Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov.
Alkhanov also urged police to stop cars with tinted windows.
"Don't let any car with tinted windows pass by...traffic police must have no doubts as to who is inside and what they are carrying. Everyone should understand the seriousness of these demands," he said.
Militant attacks and clashes remain common in Russia's mainly Muslim North Caucasus republics, in particular in Chechnya, Dagestan and Ingushetia.
