On November 9 thousands of people gathered in the German capital to mark the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall that led to Germany's unification. The guests of Chancellor Angela Merkel were French President Nicolas Sarkozy, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, the last Soviet leader, Mikhail Gorbachev and other world leaders.
On November 12 Russian President Dmitry Medvedev delivered his second state of the nation address to both houses of parliament in the Grand Kremlin Palace.
On November 12, a drunken 30-year-old military officer threw two eight-year-old girls out of an eighth-floor window of their mother's apartment. Both girls survived the fall but were hospitalized with massive internal injuries.
A video showing a police major, Alexei Dymovsky, from the city of Novorossiisk in the Krasnodar Territory was posted on Youtube. Dymovsky accused his chiefs and colleagues of corruption in his speech addressed to Prime Minister Vladimir Putin. Dymovsky was fired on November 9.
