Russia now has two Arnold Schwarzeneggers of its own: special police officer Anton Yezhov, winner of the 2008 Mister Universe professional bodybuilder competition, and Penza athlete Alexei Netesanov, 38, who won the title this year. A RIA Novosti photo correspondent spent a day with the current champ.

Alexei Netesanov competed in the category of over 179 cm (5’ 10”) tall against the strongest rivals from around the world.

It all began for Netesanov in 1991 when he came across a picture of Robbie Robinson, that year’s Mr Universe winner, in a Russian sports magazine.

“I was shocked to see his muscles and to realize how someone could develop his body. I never dreamed I could be like that. If someone had told me then that I would outdo him someday, I would have thought he was crazy,” Alexei says.

Netesanov got a series of promising offers after his victory. Mr Universe is a recognizable brand name.
