Geneva prosecutor's office opened on Wednesday an investigation into a drunken high-speed car race which involved four Russians and left a pensioner severely injured, the Swiss ATS news agency said.
Geneva Prosecutor General Daniel Zappelli was quoted by the news agency as saying he received a police report on Wednesday and immediately handed it over to a court investigator.
Zappelli earlier said he was dissatisfied by local police officials' activities as they had not provided him a report into the November 19 crash.
The high-speed race saw four Russians race a Lamborghini, a Bugatti, a Mercedes and a Porsche at over 220 km an hour (about 150 miles an hour) on a highway by Lake Geneva. The Lamborghini driver hit a Volkswagen driven by a 70-year-old German citizen, who received head injuries and is still in hospital.
The Lamborghini driver was identified as 22-year-old Ziya Babayev, the son of Russian businessman Mehraj Babayev. He was expelled from a prestigious university in Geneva following the crash.
Investigators have not disclosed the names of the three other suspects, but media reports said two of the young racers were sons of the tycoon Telman Ismailov, who opened an ultra luxury hotel on Turkey's Mediterranean this summer.
According to the Tribune de Geneve paper, the "brothers I." left the country on Sunday on a private plane, and flew to Istanbul "to meet with their father, a wealthy Russian oligarch."
