Russia, which is building its own Universal Exposition pavilion for the first time in several years, will not rent space from the host country but will instead spend over 1.5 billion rubles on the event, Dmitry Gotovtsev, Deputy Director of the Foreign Economic Department at the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade, told a RIA Novosti news conference on Thursday. The Russian pavilion, photo, will comprise 12 towers symbolizing the 12 months of the year and the 12-hour time cycle. Each tower has its own ornament modeled after the ornaments of various ethnic groups living in Russia. The entire pavilion will have an area of 6,000 sq. m
Russia will spend over 1.5 billion roubles, including 1.1. billion rubles’ worth of federal funding, on the event. “We are exerting tremendous effort to build the Russian pavilion and site at the exhibition. Although this event compares in scale with the Olympic Games, people in Russia, unfortunately, do not know very much about it,” Gotovtsev said
