The Moscow District Military court ruled on Friday that the arrest of a Navy officer suspected of throwing two stepdaughters out of an eighth-floor window was legal.
The court rejected an appeal by the suspect's lawyer that an arrest warrant issued on November 13 was illegal and should be dismissed, a RIA Novosti correspondent reported from the courtroom.
Nikolai Zakharkin, who was living in a civil marriage with the mother of two 8-year-old girls, is suspected of throwing the twins out of the window while drunk on November 12. Both girls survived the fall.
Zakharkin denies his involvement, saying that he was sleeping at the time.
The girls' mother said he sent her a text message before the incident that read: "Say goodbye to Dasha and Katya."
