The Iranian Navy has seized a racing yacht in the Persian Gulf with five Britons on board, the British government said on Monday.
The Foreign Office said the yacht, owned by Sail Bahrain, was stopped on November 25.
The vessel was on its way from Bahrain to Dubai, and "may have strayed inadvertently into Iranian waters," the statement said.
"The five crew members are still in Iran. All are understood to be safe and well and their families have been informed."
Iranian officials have not yet publicly commented on the issue.
In March 2007, 15 British sailors were arrested by Iran's Revolutionary Guard in disputed waters, and held for two weeks. The incident caused a diplomatic standoff between Iran and the U.K.
