At least one person was killed and five others injured on Thursday in an explosion at a military facility near South Korean capital, Seoul, the Yonhap news agency reported citing local police.
The blast occurred at a shooting range in the city of Pocheon, 40 kilometers (about 25 miles) north-east of Seoul, while researchers of the state-run Agency for Defense Development were testing fuses for 155-mm artillery shells.
According to South Korean Defense Ministry, two of the victims had been hospitalized in serious condition.
Yonhap said police had launched a probe into the causes of the explosion.
The Agency for Defense Development (ADD) is responsible for carrying out all defense acquisitions for the Republic of Korea, including R&D, test and evaluation and support for foreign military purchases.
