“In the wild they are nursed by their mothers and live entirely on milk for two years. We cook them a substitute - a milk formula with creamed fish, squid, cod liver oil and vitamins,” said Kirill Suvorov, a vet at the Moscow Dolphinarium.
Moscow specialists have done their best to create a comfortable nursery for the young walruses and make them feel at home. They live in groups in three separate pens. Each pen is filled with filtered water enriched with sea salt, and has wooden benches.
The Moscow Dolphinarium is not just a new home for the cubs. They will be trained as actors. After an 18-month training period they will become actors capable of touring the world, Dolphinarium specialists say.
