Perm residents unite in deep sorrow for their relatives and friends
A fire broke out on the night of December 4-5 in the Lame Horse nightclub in the Urals city of Perm. The media initially reported that 15 people were killed by the fire. After that, the death toll started to rise literally every five minutes. According to specified data available on Sunday morning, the nightclub fire killed 112 people. The area around the nightclub was cordoned off soon after the night disaster, bloggers said. “There are a large number of emergency ambulances near the café and bodies are scattered around,” a Live Journal blogger said.
The larger part of victims and persons injured in the fire are the nightclub personnel and their relatives who celebrated the club’s seventh anniversary. The nightclub’s website earlier said that the club planned to celebrate the anniversary during three days, on December 3, 4 and 5.
People are approaching the disaster scene and laying flowers, mainly carnations. Photos with the victims of the nightclub fire have also been placed here.
Many victims were trapped and choked on smoke as they attempted to escape through the club's single exit.
Over 120 were injured in the nightclub fire, with 98 people with severe burns and injuries delivered to Russia's best burn treatment centers and hospitals in Moscow, St. Petersburg and Chelyabinsk in the Urals.
A memorial service was held in the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Perm to commemorate the victims of the Lame Horse nightclub fire disaster. The service was attended by hundreds of people, including the relatives of the nightclub fire victims and those who are not indifferent to the fate of their fellow citizens.
