Six Turkish soldiers died and 10 others were wounded Monday in a clash with militants from the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), Turkish NTV reported citing local authorities and military sources.
NTV said the clash, the biggest since late 1990s, occurred in Tokat Province in northern Turkey when soldiers were combing the terrain.
The PKK is considered a terrorist group by Turkey and several other countries, including the EU and the United States.
The Kurdish area of southeastern Turkey has seen 25 years of fighting between separatist guerillas and government troops in which an estimated 40,000 people have died.
