A 2-1 win in Turkey against Besiktas sent CSKA Moscow through to the knockout stages of the Champions League on Tuesday evening

MOSCOW, December 8 (RIA Novosti) - A 2-1 win in Turkey against Besiktas sent CSKA Moscow through to the knockout stages of the Champions League on Tuesday evening

Playing without key defenders Sergei Ignashevich and Alexei Berezutsky, who were suspended by UEFA earlier on Tuesday over doping offenses, CSKA needed to better German champion Wolfsburg's result at home to Manchester United to progress.

The Moscow club's makeshift defense looked shaky in the opening moments, with Rodrigo Tello going through one-on-one with Igor Akinfeev, but the Chilean sent his shot just wide of the CSKA keeper's left-hand post.

CSKA's Milos Krasic always looked dangerous though and it was the Serbian international who made the breakthrough in the 41st minute, firing past Besiktas keeper Rustu Recber from a difficult angle after a pass from Deividas Semberas.

The reported target for a number of top European clubs then ran over to celebrate with the CSKA fans and was booked for his troubles. The goal was his fourth in this season's Champions League.

An 86th minute equalizer from Besiktas' Bobo looked to have given the Turks a point, but a late, late Yevgeny Aldonin strike gave CSKA their first Champions League away win since 2004.

In Germany, three goals from Manchester United's Michael Owen in a 3-1 win for the English champions meant that CSKA march on to the knockout stages.
