Leaders of the 27 EU member states have resolved to allocate over 2.4 billion ($3.5 billion) annually to fight global warming in developing countries, Sweden's prime minister said on Friday.

The money will go to making developing economies more environmentally friendly.

"All the 27 EU states, and the European Commission, will make their contribution," said Fredrik Reinfeldt, whose country currently holds the rotating EU presidency.

He called on other countries to follow their example. The UN climate conference is currently taking place in Copenhagen.
