The Eternal Flame at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Moscow's Alexander Garden to honor the dead of the Great Patriotic War will be temporarily relocated due to repairs, a Kremlin official said Friday.
Vladimir Kozhin, head of the Kremlin property management administration, said it would be moved to Poklonnaya Hill, a war memorial at Victory Park, where tanks and other military vehicles from World War II are on permanent display.
He said Russian President Dmitry Medvedev had issued a special decree ordering the relocation and repairs, to be completed in time for the 65th anniversary of end of WWII.
The relocation will proceed on December 27. The Eternal Flame is to be moved back into place by February 23, 2010.
The Eternal Flame of Glory was lit on May 8, 1967.
