Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said on Monday though the global economic crisis still persists, his country had successfully passed the worst stage of it.
"Next year we will be facing a number of tasks, including financial and social, but I am sure we will be able to tackle them," the Russian leader said.
He urged for progress in the economy, statehood, science and culture.
"We should also think of what we will leave to our descendants," Medvedev said.
The president expressed hope that Russia would "feel" at least slightly better next year than in 2009.
