“The Mitino district now has a metro station. Its residents will no longer feel cut off from the city,” the Moscow mayor said at the Mitino station, which is now the final stop on the Arbatsko-Pokrovskaya line. Photo: Moscow metro chief Dmitry Gayev and Mayor Yury Luzhkov.
“The new section’s tracks have been laid using new technology, which makes this part of the metro one of the safest in the world,” Yury Luzhkov added. Photo: Train at the new Volokolamskaya station on the Arbatsko-Pokrovskaya line.
Yury Luzhkov called the Myakinino unique as it has been funded by a private investor. The mayor believes that the station will help relieve chronic traffic jams in the Crocus City Mall area.
Moscow metro chief Dmitry Gayev (center) announced that the stretch from Strogino to Mitino was ready to receive passengers. He added that it would be extended with a new Pyatnitskaya station in two and a half years.
