Some 800 people were injured across Argentina last night over careless use of fireworks, the country’s Health Ministry said on Friday.
The ministry said 789 people, mostly children and teenagers, had applied for medical assistance after New Year’s eve celebrations. Most of those complained of arm, leg and eye injuries.
Last year, some 500 Argentinians got injuries during New Year festivities across the country.
In Russia, President Dmitry Medvedev ordered nationwide fire safety checks after the deadly December 5 fire in a nightclub in the west Urals city of Perm that has claimed 153 lives, according to an updated report on Friday, with many victims still in intensive care.
Last week, Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin approved new rules on the sales and use of pyrotechnics, banning indoor use of fireworks, as well as their use on rooftops and balconies.
