A group of four unidentified assailants robbed a businessman of about $804,000 in various currencies when he stopped his car at a traffic light on a street in southern Moscow, a police source said.
According to the source, the attackers blocked the victim's car with their BMW sedan, broke a side window, shot the man in the shoulder and took a bag containing $200,000, about 185,000 euro and 10 million rubles.
The incident, which occurred on Thursday night, was witnessed by the victim's family members who were in the car at the time of the robbery.
The businessman said he and his family were on the way home from a bank where they received the cash from the sale of an apartment.
Investigators suspect that the assailants knew about the deal and planned the attack in advance.
A search for the suspected criminals is underway in the capital and in nearby regions.
The number of armed robberies conducted by criminal gangs has been on the rise in Russia since the beginning of the global economic crisis, despite the government's efforts to intensify the fight against organized crime.
