... and fired a real Maxim MG

Dmitry Medvedev flew to the Vystrel firing range, outside Moscow, by helicopter

Defense Minister Anatoly Serdyukov accompanied the Commander-in-Chief

The demonstration included new armored vehicles for transporting military personnel configured after Russian-made KamAZ trucks and the Tigr family of multi-role vehicles

The Tigr vehicles, the president was told, were only available to special task units, not to the armed forces in general, and were powered by U.S. heavy-duty engines. Russian engines of the same capacity are currently being contemplated, the defense minister said

Similar equipment will also be purchased abroad. It is available in two configurations: armored and thin-skinned

The president emphasized that “only armored equipment” must be bought, because otherwise it is “not a combat vehicle.”

A Maxim machine gun was demonstrated to the president at an exhibition of rare small arms on the Vystrel firing range

The Maxim proved efficient
