Major U.S. professional sports leagues and associations have collected and donated over $5 million to victims of quake-hit Haiti.
On Friday, the National Football League (NFL) donated $2.5 million, the National Basketball Association (NBA) - $1 million and the National Hockey League - $100,000.
Major Baseball League (MBL) was the first to collect money for the quake victims and donated $1 million, while the MBL reigning champions, the New York Yankees, donated $500,000.
The 7.0-magnitude earthquake struck Haiti on Tuesday, was followed by many aftershocks and nearly leveled Port-au-Prince. The most recent quake measuring 4.6 on the Richter scale was registered some 60 km (37 miles) to the south of Port-au-Prince late on Friday night
Aramick Louis, Haiti's secretary of state for public safety, announced that over 140,000 people were killed and some 250,000 injured after Tuesday's earthquake.
The UN asked on Friday night for $562 million from the global community to help Haiti's quake victims.
