A beauty contest with camels in Saudi Arabia's capital has opened on Saturday with more than 480 contestants from Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.
Camel beauty contests have been held in Saudi Arabia since 2001. The owners of the "Camel Queen" and runners-up will receive prizes worth 500,000 riyals (about $134,000), mostly cars.
The winners in several nominations will be chosen "under the strict principles of fairness and equality among all contestants," the beauty pageant chairman, Haled bin Salman bin Muhammed, was reported by Arab press agencies as saying.
