Iran Six participants holding a meeting in New York on Saturday decided against new sanctions on Tehran and will study new political methods to solve the issues, a Russian Foreign Ministry deputy said.
"We will look at which measures can be developed in order to stimulate political and diplomatic solutions to the problem at hand," Sergei Ryabkov told journalists in New York after the meeting.
"This does not mean that we have made a decision in regard to [creating more] sanctions, this is the fulfillment of the mandate given by our ministers to complete a collective evaluation of the situation to decide what can be done further," Ryabkov said.
Iran is under a number of UN sanctions because of its nuclear ambitions. The West believes Tehran is pursuing a nuclear program to make weapons, an accusation Iran has denied.
The Iran Six consists Russia, the U.S., China, Britain, France, and Germany.
