Four militants were killed on Tuesday in a special operation near the Chechen capital of Grozny, the president of the Russian North Caucasus republic said.
"A group of militants was blocked off in a forest between the villages of Chishki and Varandy, and four of them were killed," Ramzan Kadyrov said.
He added that Chingiskhan Gishayev, a close ally of warlord Doku Umarov, was identified as among the dead.
The operation is continuing.
