On February 1 and 2, festivities will be held in Moscow’s Christ the Savior Cathedral to mark the first anniversary of the enthronement of Kirill, Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia. The day of enthronement is widely celebrated in the Russian Orthodox Church.

Kirill, the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia, said his first year was a time of “spiritual turmoil.” “To me, my first year as the patriarch was a time of spiritual turmoil, something I had never experienced, and never felt before,” the Patriarch said on Sunday in an interview with the Rossiya TV channel ahead of the first anniversary of his enthronement.

Over the past year, the patriarch has visited many cities and countries, and met with dozens of state leaders and tens of thousands of believers.

Patriarch Kirill is the top official of the Russian Orthodox Church and the shepherd of believers in more than 28,000 dioceses in Russia and all other former Soviet republics, as well as many other countries. The Patriarch believes that despite the world’s secular problems his main task is to help seal the rift among believers.
