Roman Pavlyuchenko was still a Tottenham Hotspur player as the European transfer window closed on Monday evening, despite late interest from newly-promoted Birmingham City.
Russian international Pavlyuchenko has not started a Premier League match for Tottenham this season, and had made no secret of his desire to leave North London. Birmingham City tabled a 10 million pound bid, but were knocked back by Tottenham, who want to recoup the more than 13 million they paid for the player when they signed him in August 2008 from Spartak Moscow.
Although the European transfer window has now closed, Russian clubs are still free to buy, as their season does not start until March. But with Zenit St. Petersburg and Spartak reportedly having cooled their interest in the striker, Pavlyuchenko looks set to stay at Tottenham.
However, with Tottenham striker Robbie Keane having joined Scottish giants Celtic on a loan deal on Monday, the 28-year-old forward could find himself with more playing time.
