Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Saturday visited a Russian bobsledder who has been in a Munich hospital since receiving serious injuries in a training incident in Germany in late November.

Irina Skvortsova has undergone numerous surgeries, and was brought out of induced coma and spoke for the first time on December 29.

"Irina is in good hands," Lavrov said in the hospital, the visit shown on the Rossiya 24 channel. "I conveyed her wishes of a speedy recovery from all Russians."

Lavrov presented the athlete with a clock made in the shape of a Faberge-style egg and discussed her health condition with German doctors, a spokeswoman for the Russian Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation, said.

Skvortsova received multiple fractures including to her hips and back when the Russian women's team tipped over in the sled and stopped, after which the Russian men's team crashed into them from behind at full speed on a bobsleigh track in Germany's Koenigssee.

The head of the hospital's plastic surgery department said on Friday that Irina is now in stable condition.

Lavrov is in Munich for an international security conference attended by the world's top defense officials, diplomats and politicians.
