The U.S. Treasury Department has further extended sanctions against Iran's Islamic Guards Corps (IRGC), the department said on its website on Wednesday.
U.S. President Barack Obama said on Tuesday Washington and its allies were developing "significant" sanctions against the Islamic Republic over its decision to begin enriching uranium to 20%.
The department designated an individual and four IRGC subsidiaries as "proliferators of weapons of mass destruction (WMD) and their supporters."
The sanctions are designed to block deals between the designated companies and U.S. firms, and to freeze all their assets falling under U.S. jurisdiction.
The sanctions were laid against four subsidiaries of IRGC's engineering arm, Khatam al-Anbiya, and the company's chief, IRGC General Rostam Qasemi.
Profits from the companies "are available to support the full range of the IRGC's illicit activities, including WMD proliferation and support for terrorism," the Treasury Department said.
