The ceremony was attended by Russia's Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Zhukov and President of the National Olympic Committee Leonid Tyagachov.

This year, the Russian government has promised to pay the medalists a ruble equivalent of 100,000 euros for every gold medal, 60,000 euros for every silver medal, and 40,000 euros for every bronze medal.

Russia has sent 175 athletes to the Canadian city which will host the Winter Games on February 12-28.
