Aymani Kadyrov asked her son to show respect for the defendants’ seniority in age and to call off the proceedings. She reminded him of the centuries-old traditions in Chechen society, which call for younger people to respect elders. Older people have to be treated with respect and indulgence even when they are obviously wrong or mistaken.
Aymani Kadyrov was elected president of the Regional Public Fund named after her husband, Akhmat Kadyrov, the first president of Chechnya and Hero of Russia, who was killed in May 2004. President Vladimir Putin awarded her the Order of Friendship in April 2008.
“By calling off his lawsuits, Kadyrov also damaged the PR-campaigns of some of the people involved, who in fact tried to cash in on the court proceedings to boost their own status and importance,” said Chechen ombudsman Nurdi Nukhazhiyev.
