A group of four unidentified assailants robbed a bank in St. Petersburg in northwest Russia of almost 3.5 million rubles ($115,000), a police source said on Sunday.
According to the police source, the attackers entered the building of Vostochny Express Bank through the staff entrance on Saturday afternoon after presenting themselves as security guards.
They tied up the cashier and got away with the money, the police source said, adding that measures are underway to find the assailants.
The number of armed robberies conducted by criminal gangs has been on the rise in Russia since the beginning of the global economic crisis, despite the government's efforts to intensify the fight against organized crime.
