The head of the Russian Orthodox Church will visit Egypt in April to meet with the country's religious and political figures

The head of the Russian Orthodox Church will visit Egypt in April to meet with the country's religious and political figures, the Arab republic's ambassador to Russia said Saturday.

Izzat Saad said the Egyptian program of Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia is still being drafted and it is still unclear whether he will meet with President Hosni Mubarak.

The diplomat said Egypt respects the Russian spiritual leader for his efforts to strengthen dialogue between cultures and civilizations and for his uniting role in church activities.

The country also highly assesses the previous Russian patriarch, late Alexy II who visited Egypt in the early 1990s.

Egypt has a Christian shrine: the burning bush, described in the Book of Exodus. The bush is kept in the St. Catherine Greek Orthodox Monastery on the Sinai Peninsula.
