The Israeli military has called off an anti-terrorism raid in the Palestinian village of Qatana in the West Bank after a soldier placed the secret plans on Facebook, the Israeli Army press service said on Wednesday.
Other soldiers noted the leak on the Internet and notified their commanding officers, who called off the military maneuver.
"The division commander decided not to hold the operation in fear that the information could land in the hands of enemy elements and could be used against the Israeli Army," the press service said.
The soldier has been relieved of military duties and received a 10-day sentence.
Because of information leaks onto the Internet, especially on Facebook, the Israeli military has designed detailed instructions for its personnel and decided to form a sub-department to handle further leaks.
