Down syndrome performers in an unprecedented theatrical production

The Simple Hearts is a theater company like no other. All its actors have Down syndrome. Since it was established ten years ago it has staged classics and occasionally ventured into art house.
One day, a director came up with a different approach to casting a Nikolai Gogol production. That was how the Simple Hearts Theater   came into being.
Actor and director Igor Neupokoyev established the theater in 1999 with support from the Down Syndrome Association and Russian stage star Ekaterina Vasilyeva.
