A court in Germany's Bavaria has sentenced four pensioners to jail terms for kidnapping their financial agent who misled them, local media reported.

The court established that in June 2009, two men beat James A., 57, breaking two of his ribs, and then took him to a basement in a house in Bavaria and kept him there demanding that he pay them 2.4 million euros ($3.2 mln) they had lost after wrongly investing the money in the United States following James's recommendation.

The main convict, aged 74, was sentenced to six years in prison; his 61-year-old accomplice will have to serve four years. The two men's wives, aged 80 and 64, got suspended sentences ranging from 18 to 21 months.

Police freed the captive three days after he was abducted. The trial was initially postponed due to the financial agent's illness.
