The giant on-line auction and shopping website eBay has launched a Russian interface, the company announced on Thursday.
The main obstacle for 16.3% of Russians has been the language barrier, which prevents them from buying on eBay because everything is in English. The Russian version of the site will also have feedback capabilities.
The Russian version of eBay will have to struggle, however, to win Russian-speaking e-buyers from the Russian auction site Molotok.ru, which operates in the same market and is considered to be a strong eBay competitor.
The average cost of a single purchase in Russia is around $27. Shoes, outerwear, and mobile phone accessories are the most popular lots among Russians, according to eBay's March 2010 statistics.
Payments on the new interface will be made using credit and debit cards through PayPal.
