Toothpaste, used to promote oral hygiene, was first mentioned between 5000 and 3000 B.C. Ancient Egyptians used to make improvised toothpaste from bull-intestine ashes, pumice and wine/grape vinegar.
Modern science has made remarkable progress. Manufacturers now offer many varieties of toothpaste, including whitening toothpaste, toothpaste for sensitive teeth, toothpaste for children, gel toothpaste and tartar-control toothpaste, etc.
Specialists at a Moscow-based company manufacturing almost 63,000 tubes of toothpaste each day say the standard toothpaste formula contains abrasive materials for cleaning tooth enamel, active foaming substances, glycerin, soap, water and binding agents.
Manufacturers can also add various therapeutic substances, including herb extracts and whitening components.
The entire production process, from suspension mixing to packing, lasts three days.
